We Stand With You.
To our readers,
Like the rest of the world, VCFS is outraged and heartbroken by the recent death of George Floyd. His death adds to the pattern of exponentially too many black lives being taken as a result of systemic racism, abuse of power and a legal system that dismisses or excuses such horrific events.
Though the life of George Floyd was taken in the state of Minneapolis, the attitudes and behaviors that incited such events unfortunately exist much closer to home.
As Canada’s largest student-run fashion show, VCFS understands that it is important to take a stand and speak up for the things that matter. Our history as a team is one in which has demanded and celebrated the equal union of all students, of all people, at all times. However, we recognize the privilege many of us have, and we know that we can always do more. We all have the ability to contribute to change by actively listening, learning, and amplifying the voices of those that need to be heard. As a team, we understand that having the luxury of a platform is followed by a responsibility to vocalize our stance. We are still learning, and we will continue to use our growing awareness of injustice to be active participants of positive and necessary change throughout the world and in our own backyards.
