VCFS 2021 NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS
With 2020 out of the way (thank God), we are moving onto bigger and better things! 2020 was a year filled with many important lessons and we can only hope that we take those lessons and use them to spearhead a bright future.
However, before we look to better the world, we must first look inwards and find ways to better ourselves. A few members of our wonderful executive committee have come forward to share their personal New Year’s Resolutions for 2021!
Before we dive into them, on behalf of the entire 2021 Vogue Charity Fashion Show cast and crew, we wanted to wish everyone a very happy new year!
A message from the VCFS 2021 Co-Presidents, Ciara and Christina:
As the 2020-2021 Co-Presidents of VCFS, our New Years’ resolution is to continually face unexpected occurrences head on and with a positive attitude. While the past year presented many unforeseen challenges, we never gave up on creating our final product: Convergence. In 2021 we will build on the newfound knowledge instilled throughout 2020 and end this school year with a bang!
Ciara Halloran // Co-President
My New Year’s resolution is to drink more water. I chose to do this as I recently learnt how doing so drastically improves your memory and mood. While a simple act, it can make a big difference in my day to day life!
Maddie Moore // Marketing Intern
My resolution going into 2021 is to stay present. Like many, I’ve felt like this past year has grounded me, and I’m learning to savour the ‘small things’. I hope to take as many pauses as needed, connect, and just be.
Sophie Emberley- Korkmaz // Stage Intern
My new years resolution is to be more present with the people around me! Sometimes i can find myself focusing on my phone/social media too much or worrying about all the things i need to do instead of really letting myself relax and enjoy myself. So this year I’m going to work on letting myself be more present and putting away my phone during those times.
Carly Baldachin // Stage Manager
Hello and Happy 2021 everyone! I feel like if 2020 has taught me anything, it’s that I need to focus on what matters in the long run and focus on what makes me happy. This year, I’m going to try to do my best to not get overwhelmed with how crazy the world is and focus on my friends, family, dogs, and this that bring positivity in my life.
Kieran Turnbull // Head of Videography
My New Year’s resolution is to get a hot air balloon. I have wanted a hot air balloon for years (decades, even!), but I have never mustered the courage to invest. As I understand it, there are eco-friendly hot air balloons on the market (no propane emission!); in 2021, I intend to purchase one. My loved ones have decreed me “rife with untamed hubris”, as balloon-related accidents are considerably more dire than one might expect. However, if 2020 has taught me anything, it is that we simply do not have the time to let joy pass us by if we can help it. Come summertime, take a look up in the sky - you may see me flying among the clouds.
Bronwyn Black // Tech Intern
One of my goals for the new year is to spend less time worrying about things outside of my control. 2020 revealed to me that some things will remain out of my control and when trying to make the most out of these situations rather than control them it becomes much easier to find the silver lining!
Marley Higgs // Press and Media Intern
After a year of taking my health for granted, I plan on entering this year with a renewed focus on my health. In 2021, I want to find a physical activity that I truly enjoy. This will help satisfy my goal of sitting less and moving more in 2021!
Mikayla Bergamin // Press and Media Editor, Stage Manager Assistant
If 2020 has taught me anything, it was to treasure the people and things we love. With the extra time I had due to lockdown restrictions, I took the opportunity to revisit something I love but had not made much time for as of late, which was leisurely writing. This year, my new year’s resolution is to put more time aside to write and focus on personal creative ventures!
Amanda Gimera // Head Model
My resolution for this year is definitely to prioritize my health and my personal career/financial goals. With graduation right around the corner, I feel like I’m about to smacked with a reality check and I want to be in the right mindset to navigate the next chapter of my life. I’ve typically been a procrastinator and struggle heavily with consistency and prioritizing my needs. I’m working on ways to hold myself accountable this year and actually take action toward my goals!
Christina Pillkahn // Co-President
Going into 2021 I have decided to keep my resolutions very small so I can 1. achieve them and 2. I am not disappointed when 2021 doesn't make up for 2020. The libra in me tends to overcommit and I easily become over ambitious of what is realistic for me to complete while trying to manage school, VCFS, stresses of the pandemic and so much more. This year I want to improve on knowing my personal threshold of commitment and when I should say no. Hopefully, I can learn some self-care methods at the same time for when I do decide to say no and treat myself :)
