MEET THE PRESS AND MEDIA TEAM

MEET THE EDITOR: Mikayla Bergamin, 4th Year English Major

Hello!

I am so beyond excited to be entering my third year with VCFS as this year’s press and media editor! During my first year on the team, I was the head of tech. During my second year, I had the incredible opportunity of being one of the 3 creative directors for our 2020 performance, where I strengthened my knowledge and love for VCFS in so many ways. Being a creative director for VCFS meant that I got to challenge myself personally, professionally, creatively and even emotionally. Throughout my years on this team, I have come to find that this platform can quite literally change lives, through annual donations to local kingston charities, and through the personal impact it can have on its members. When the 2020 year came to a close, rather abruptly might I add, I decided I wasn’t done with this foundation yet. I have to come to love each cast I’ve been apart of as if they’re my own family. I deeply appreciate the VCFS mission and consider it a true privilege to be apart of it once more.

This year, I am so excited to be VCFS’ first press and media editor, working alongside my lovely intern, Marley Higgs! After being on this club for  2 years, I understand the responsibility we maintain in our community. We have been given the luxury of this platform because of the many hardworking students that came before us. Together, myself and Marley hope to create an online extension of VCFS’ limitless creativity and be a platform where all the voices on the team can be heard!

Though we have had this page for many years, this year presented a special opportunity to utilize every inch of VCFS and push ourselves to create content in as many innovative ways as possible. The Vogue Charity Fashion Show is more than just a performance - it is a local legacy of philanthropy and art that brings a community together to celebrate expression in all its forms. I sincerely hope that this year, the press and media page highlights the beautiful complexities of VCFS, while celebrating our goals and the people who help us reach them! COVID19 has presented many challenges but several opportunities as well. Now more than ever, we understand how lucky we are to be able to gather 150+ students and put on a performance that celebrates fashion, music, dance and much more.

Though many obstacles have been put in front of us, the show must and will go on. Marley and I hope that the press and media page will be just one of the ways that VCFS illuminates the unstoppable and devoted student body that lives at VCFS. Virtual VCFS starts here and expands across our entire cast and crew. I am so excited for what’s ahead and honoured to be a part of it!

MEET THE PRESS AND MEDIA INTERN: Marley Higgs, 4th Year Health Studies Major

I went to go watch my roommate in the 2019 show- to say I was blown away would be an understatement. Shortly after the show, I knew the following year I wanted to join VCFS in some capacity. I knew that VCFS would give me the opportunity to join a community of like-minded creative individuals who share the same passion for fashion and philanthropy as I do. I am so thankful that I joined VCFS because it has no doubt, been the highlight of my undergrad!

I was keeping up to date with all the VCFS articles Mik has written on the press page this past summer. I was impressed by the creative and quality content she has put forward. I thought to myself how awesome would it be to help the press page in some capacity? I thought that Mik, being an experienced writer would be a great mentor for me to learn from. Through Mik’s guidance, I will be able to develop my voice as a writer and improve my writing skills. I am extremely interested in pursuing a career in public relations after my undergrad. This opportunity will help me strengthen the skills needed for a career in public relations. Through this experience, I will develop strong social media marketing, creative thinking, and writing skills!

It is clear that VCFS will be looking very different this year. It is very important for us to continue to bring awareness to VCFS. Our press page is designed to provide our target audience with creative and relevant content through steady blogging. The goal of this is to bring more traffic to our website with the hopes of attracting more donors. My goal this year as the media and press intern is to ensure that every member of VCFS can have their voice heard on the press page. I hope to see many collaborations with different portfolios in the next few months where our audience will have the opportunity to learn more about every VCFS member. <3

We are so excited to be working together this year in order to deliver an online experience that gives you a great view of VCFS. We hope to take you onstage, backstage and behind the production of the 2021 show: CONVERGENCE.

Thank you for all the support thus far and we can’t wait to continue working alongside the talented, creative and passionate minds that make up the Vogue Charity Fashion Show. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions for the virtual VCFS, please feel free to reach out to us! We are always open to discussion, feedback and more. Until then…
