The Philanthropy of Fashion: VCFS Charity 2021/2022

As the Vogue Charity Fashion Show enters its 25th year, we are pleased to announce Kingston Interval House (KIH) as the charity of choice for the 2021/2022 show! In a season when we are spending more time at home than ever, the experiences of violence amongst women, children, and youth has been heightened. KIH provides these affected groups with support through their emergency shelter, as well as second stage housing facility. VCFS couldn’t be more honoured to partner with this amazing community organization.

Here’s a message from Ashton Yau and Nadia Mcgowan, the 2021/2022 Heads of Charity, on how they settled on this year’s incredibly worthy organization:

“As co-heads of charity we were tasked with a very tough but rewarding decision to make, choosing one local grassroots charity for VCFS to support. After reading many inspiring applications and holding interviews with numerous unique charities we fell in love with Kingston Interval House (KIH). KIH is a Kingston based charity that provides essential responsive services to women. They seek to interrupt the cycle of domestic abuse and gender-based violence in Kingston through the delivery of its core services which include emergency shelter services, transitional programs, and second stage housing”.

A Message from KIH:

“The COVID-19 pandemic has shone a spotlight on violence against women and the need for women’s shelters and services across the country. Experts say more needs to be done for women, and their children and youth, who are escaping violence. According to the Women’s Foundation of Canada, a woman in Canada is killed approximately every 6 days by her intimate partner, and 67% of all Canadians say they know someone personally who has experienced physical or sexual abuse.

Kingston Interval House (KIH) is a local agency which provides emergency shelter, second stage housing, and community outreach for women, children and youth experiencing violence. Funds raised from the VCFS will go directly towards supporting the women, children, and youth in Kingston and area who are accessing Kingston Interval House programs and services.”

So how can VCFS make a lasting impact on a charity with such an important mission statement? Here are a few ways your donation will be critical to KIH:

“When we receive financial donations, our agency can use that money to support the women, children and youth who have been impacted by domestic violence through our various programs. Quite simply, financial donations allow us to continue to help some of the most vulnerable in our community. By donating to KIH, you should feel good knowing you are helping women, children, and youth to break that cycle of violence.”

Leigh Martins (Training, Education, and Volunteer Coordinator, KIH)

“KIH is thrilled to partner with Queen’s University Vogue Charity Fashion Show. This group has done a great deal for local agencies in the community over the years, so it is a wonderful accolade to be selected by their organization. It is also refreshing to work with a group who truly honors diversity, inclusion, equality, accessibility, and empowerment, which are all key elements to the work KIH is doing.”
